For those of you who have been wondering where I am, I have been traveling around in California on vacation/helping my aunt move into her new place.
Helping my aunt move took up most of my time in San Francisco. She had so much stuff to move and driving around San Francisco, especially downtown, during Christmas season was not fun. I'm glad I didn't have to drive, but there were a lot of people and cars to navigate around.
There were so many places I wanted to go. We were right next to the shopping mall the entire time and only went shopping a few times, and we passed by the Golden Gate Park about 10 times and never stopped by :(. One thing I need to do there is go visit the new de Young Muesum. However, things I did get to see included Union Square at night and I actually saw a Tesla!! That was quite exciting.
I'm currently in Fresno at my cousin's house. We met a lot of relatives over the past few days. Today, we went to Yosemite. It was really nice outside because it had just snowed the day before. We saw a few snowed-in cars and all the buildings and trees were covered in snow. The only problem with the snow was that we had to put on chains for the tires. Putting the chains on the first tire was hard because we didn't really know what we were doing. We managed though, and then we drove to see Half Dome which is all we ended up doing because it took about 3 hours to get there. The view was worth the driving and my toes freezing off though. I post pictures later.

Tiff's Imagination
Because I know you all like laughing at me, check out the comic/profile thing my suitemate/old floor mate, Tiffany (or as we like to call her, The Tiff), has been working on. Sometimes at Berkeley is her brainchild, and you can laugh at all the stupid things we did last year and hopefully she'll get to this year.

Jane Austen
I finished my Jane Austen goal of reading all 6 books this summer and am now rewatching the 5 hour long Pride and Prejudice over and over again for some reason. Maybe perhaps because it never gets old. Like my sister said earlier, every time you watch it, you see something new, or have a new perspective or insight into something that is going on in the story. It is such a timeless story.
The only problem with reading 19th century literature is that we do not speak in the way that they spoke then, so often I had to go back and reread phrases over again in order to understand them. Austen also tends not to write in a lot of the dialog, but instead describes what happens or lets the reader decide for themselves exactly what occurred. I would like to think reading those books has expanded my vocabulary, but I don't really think it did much.
Some of my favorite lines probably came from a letter written from the hero to the heroine in Austen's last novel, Persuasion. Austen often uses letters in her stories. If only guys wrote letters like that today. :)
"I can listen no longer in silence...You pierce my soul I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you..."
- Captain Wentworth to Anne Elliot, Jane Austen's "Persuasion"

tagged!
Because Rox tagged me and didn't think I would do it.
Directions: Once you've been tagged, you have to write a blog with 16 random things, facts, habits or goals about you. At the end choose 10 people to be tagged, listing their names and why you chose them. Don't forget to leave them a comment ("you're it") and to read your blog. You can't tag the person who tagged you.
1. My grandparents helped raised me when I was little. Which gets me thinking, I must have had to communicate with them some way, right? and for the most part, they only spoke Shanghai dialect. So I think I must have known Shanghai dialect, or at least a little bit, but sadly, it is all gone now except for like two phrases. :(
2. I was at my neighbors house the other night and played rock band for the first time. And it took us literally 7 or 8 times to finally finish Here it Goes Again. I was singing so I blame the guitarist and drummer. The words are so small. We were all really tired of that song by the end of it and I'm still not sure what some of the lyrics are.
3. I'm a nerd. Why else would I subscribe to Nova and NASA podcasts? and listen to NPR
4. My mission this summer: finish all 6 of Jane Austen's major novels. All I have left right now is Emma but we don't have it at home, so I first have to go get a copy. (I also need to get a copy of the newest Artemis Fowl book. Eoin Colfer's going to comic con!)
5. I love playing music, in case you didn't notice from one of my posts from last year. Been doing more piano practicing this summer than I think I have my entire life. I also love listening to oldies (S&G and the Eagles) and opera and musicals. My poor computer has almost 30 GB dedicated to music. I'm trying to cut back. And to those of you who didn't come to my last concert, I expect to see you at my next one (we're playing Midway again). Don't think I don't know who you are.
6. I don't know if it's an asian thing or what but my dad's side of the family really like having names that rhyme. Like Amanda and Rebecca. Or my dad and his brothers: Warren, Lauren and Doren. Or the "win" brothers, godwin, edwin and i always forget the name of the last one but I think he changed his name anyways.
7. I hope to be able to perform learn the Yellow River Concerto with Tiff by the end of college. We can do it. :D
8. I use an RPN calculator most of the time and love it. Don't know what it is? Look it up. It may seem more complicated, but it's so much faster and easier once you get the hang of it. Thank you daddy. Who needs parentheses.
9. I always seem to have bruises. Probably cause I'm really good at running into things.
10. I'm only on 10...boo. ok, well, I don't like Macs (sorry Tiff). They are always a pain to use whenever I have to use them. The only good thing about Apple is the Ipod and even then Itunes is always messing with me. Not to mention mac is always picking on PC.
note: i just realized 11-14 are missing. I knew I wrote them, but I dunno where they went, so here goes. new ones.
11. i love google stuff. All the products are so convenient and all at one place.
12. I can't decide which engineering major I want to go into. I keep thinking about it but it's so hard to choose.
13. I am currently listening to Pottercast and am so going to sit in on the taping when they are at comic-con.
14. i want a puppy.
15. Camping is so much fun! One of the prettiest places I've camped was in Mt. Rainer National Park in Washington state. We camped right next to the Ohanapecosh River and there were small rapids falling right below us. Other cool places: Crater Lake, Yellowstone of course and traveling down the Snake River, Death Valley(not in the summer), Yosemite, Redwoods, the list goes on and on. There's many places I still want to go to, especially Glacier National Park before all the glaciers melt. It's so sad. Anyone up to try backpacking?
16. Some Omi-isms:
Omi: he who laughs most loudly laughs lastly; Rai: What Omi did to that sentence is what we're going to do to you!
Omi: Jack Spicer, you are always getting up in my busy-ness.
Omi: Talk to the fingers.
Omi: My last name is CRUD?!! OMI CRUD!!!!!!
Omi: What goes in circles goes the other way in circles.
Omi: The jig is down, you are at the top of your rope, spoon over that Wu!
Translate those. And of course, I have to mention Bobo.
Who I tagged and why:
Kevin - because I can bug him about it later.
Amanda - because she bugs me.
Ruth - because she never updates her blog.
Annie - because she keeps pushing me to finish my costume, which I am working on.
Maya - because she was supposed to visit me at Cal and never got back to me.
Steph - because you're my Cal pal (it rhymed).
Justin - because things never change. i think I'll be smacking you for as long as you make dirty comments, which will be forever.
Tiffany - because she is my piano partner
Dawn - because she is one of my pen pals who is interning at the happiest place on earth
Rachelle - because I ran into her at Mira Mesa and we still need to go see a concert.
Anyone wanna go to the SD Summer Pops Video Game Concert?

summer time blues
Last summer I had nothing to do.
This summer - school (chem, no less), work, band, and the scheduling everything around and having everything fit. It's like a giant puzzle that I keep forgetting I have pieces to. At least I'm getting paid for work though.
Still have to get my costume done for comic-con. hehe. i hope i get it done, if i find the time to get it done. one other thing on my to-do list
